The Mojave Desert Land Trust works closely with individuals, communities, educators, and conservation partners to provide educational and interpretive programming and opportunities for everyone - especially those who have historically experienced barriers to access - to explore and learn about the desert’s beauty and ecological importance.
Women In Science Discovering Our Mojave
Since 2019, the Women In Science Discovering Our Mojave (WISDOM) program has been helping to change the face of the scientific community working in the California desert. MDLT’s innovative internship provides women with a vital stepping-stone into conservation science, a field where they have been historically underrepresented. To date, the WISDOM program has served 33 interns, of which 87% self-identify as a person of color.
From beetles to bighorns, springs to starlight, WISDOM interns have provided new baseline data about biodiversity within Mojave Trails National Monument.
Desert Discovery Field Studies
By offering experiential learning labs in the field and in the classroom, MDLT helps students understand the desert in new ways while learning about its unique ecology. Designed to complement and augment all subject areas and grades, Desert Discovery Field Studies (DDFS) inspires youth to become environmental advocates through engaging lessons about the natural world.
Desert Indoors
Families can access free educational content to teach youth about the desert ecosystem through MDLT’s Desert Indoors curriculum. Each lesson is designed for use at home or on nearby public land. Certain lessons are available in Spanish.
